Steve Brine at Kings

Steve Brine paid a visit to Kings’ School in Winchester to speak to some of the students about the work of an MP and some of his experiences in Parliament.

The MP was invited by a mixture of the school debate club and a new PMQs club which meets each Wednesday to assess the weekly event in the Commons.

Students also had the opportunity to put their questions to Mr Brine, which covered a host of subjects from social media to disinformation and Ukraine, MPs pay as well as climate change.

After the visit Steve Brine said; “It was very interesting to visit Kings’ and hear where the students, and I am sure some of their teachers, are in their perception of the current political landscape and Parliament.

“I’m really thankful to the team for allowing me some time to give an insight into Westminster. Have to say I think the PMQs club is a brilliant idea and I hope other schools will copy.”

The Winchester and Chandler’s Ford MP also had the chance to catch up with headteacher Dr James Adams, who’s tenure started just shortly before the first lockdown in March 2020.

Steve added; “I’m glad I also had the chance to finally catch up with Dr Adams, after so many emails exchanged in the past two years. He, like so many heads, was able to update me on the issues students and staff are facing as we move away from Covid. I really look forward to working with him going forwards.”

Hampshire Chronicle column - Farewell

Thursday, 30 May, 2024
My final column is perhaps more reflective than usual but I hope you will forgive me as I prepare to formally step down as Parliament is formally Dissolved ahead of the General Election on July 4. Fourteen years ago, in May 2010, I was first elected as our MP.
