At the end of a busy constituency day, which took the MP from Alresford Surgery to Winchester College, Steve Brine caught up with officials from Cala Homes to see the progress on Kings Barton and discuss the ongoing debate around Andover Road's future closure.

Sarah Pasco, Managing Director of Cala Homes, briefed Steve on the build including the re-routing of the Andover Road.

Steve requested the meeting to receive the update, but mainly to raise residents concerns over current plans to close Andover Road to through traffic and instead diverting it through Winchester Road on the new estate.

Mr Brine said : "This has been a issue as long as the Kings Barton has been on the agenda and I don't think residents concerns, either side of the argument, will be going anywhere anytime soon."

"As Sarah kindly briefed me, the original planning permission for Kings Barton included the re-routing of Andover Road and nothing has changed which would stop this. I will of course continue to pick this up with all major stakeholders to ensure we get this right."

Hampshire Chronicle column - Farewell

Thursday, 30 May, 2024
My final column is perhaps more reflective than usual but I hope you will forgive me as I prepare to formally step down as Parliament is formally Dissolved ahead of the General Election on July 4. Fourteen years ago, in May 2010, I was first elected as our MP.
