Steve Brine has spoken out following an investigation into the conditions of local soldiers drafted in to help with London 2012.

A Daily Echo investigation has uncovered evidence that hundreds of members of the 1st Battalion, Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment (1PWRR) have been put up locations including underground car parks, shopping centres and old warehouses.

The regiment, nicknamed the Tigers, recruits from across Hampshire, and local MP Steve Brine commented: "These troops have saved this Olympic Games in some respects and frankly, they deserve better than this.

"I cannot stand the sniping and the constant search for a bad news story around London 2012 but our lads clearly need somewhere more comfortable in the immediate and I am sure LOCOG are more than capable if they put their minds to it of organising that.

"And when the games are over we need to look long and hard at all aspects of how we performed as a country, in a sporting sense and organisationally."
