Local MP, Steve Brine, paid a visit to a brand new care home in Shawford this morning.
He dropped into the recently opened Shawford Springs - on Otterbourne Road - to see the new 64-room facility on the site of the former Captain Barnard pub.
The home is part of Barchester Health and hopes to fill with residents, some of whom have dementia, over the next 18-months to two years.
Steve was welcomed by General Manager, Julie House, and Sonja Jueterbock who is the Home Services Adviser. He took a tour of the home and spent time chatting with staff.
The MP also heard about the 'blue light' service they offer to police, ambulance and fire service personnel who are welcome to drop in at any time on their duty breaks for a free hot drink and a cake. He met up with an ambulance crew from South Central Ambulance Service who were visiting the home to care for a resident.
Steve says; "This is a really quality new development and has been finished to an extremely high standard. Everyone was so nice and professional and I think it's going to be a huge success in the area."
