A group of MPs discussed the possibility of emergency services working closer together during a Westminster Hall debate on Tuesday 9th February.

More than 300 responses from emergency services across the country have been fed into the government as it consults on working more closely, and Hampshire was praised as an example of a county taking the debate seriously.

Steve Brine took part in the debate, and spoke to local emergency services beforehand to further understand what they are saying.

Speaking afterwards, he said: "We are very much in the pre-legislative stage here, so this is about the emergency services making their respective cases, and the government listening before coming back to MPs in the Spring.

"I was delighted that Hampshire was highlighted as taking this so seriously, and it was good for me to echo that in this debate.

"Listening to the Minister at the end, and the general tone of the debate throughout, it is clear that there are differences across regions, and the main thing we take away is that there is broad and widespread support for collaboration in principle, but some important questions remain about how it will be developed."
