Winchester and Chandler's Ford MP Steve Brine has welcomed news the new Conservative administration at Winchester City Council has scrapped Sunday parking charges in the city.

Within days of taking control of Winchester City Council, following the local elections held on May 5th, Sunday car parking charges that the previous administration had implemented in the city have been reversed.

Steve said: "So many people expressed their concerns to me about Sunday charging from local businesses and church congregations to constituents who just like to pop into Winchester on a Sunday. I thought it was crazy at this fragile economic time to do anything that would deter people from visiting the city centre.

"Many of the people I represent in Chandler's Ford especially were annoyed by the move and told me it would make them think twice before heading into Winchester. This is a bold move by the new Conservative council and one that fulfils a clear promise they made at the recent election so I think they deserve credit for making it happen."
