Thousands of new students are arriving in Winchester this week and local MP Steve Brine dropped into Fresher's Fayre at the University of Winchester today (Saturday 22 September).
Steve was the guest on campus of the Winchester Student Conservative Society which is largest political society at the institution based on Sparkford Road just outside the city centre.
He spent a few hours chatting with new students about politics, life in the city and getting involved with the Winchester Student Conservative Society as well as meeting many of the other stallholders and societies.
The MP said; "This was my 11th fresher's fayre and I never want to miss because it's such a lively and vibrant event. I was an SU President myself, in Liverpool, and have a lot of time for the things societies can do while you're at university.
"This year's Conservative society is led by Ryan and he has made a great start, including signing up dozens of new members through fresher's fair. As well as having a good time and taking part in a great many social events, the society supports campaigning in the constituency and we love having them on-board.
"The other good thing, and what was so noticeable at fresher's fayre this year, was how the Conservative Society is run by students for students. You didn't have to look too far from our base this year, in the Stripe, to see that is not universally the case with political societies on campus."
