Steve Brine and Cllr Rose Burns joined hundreds of local people as the visited a pop-up marquee to examine plans for North Walls Recreation Ground on Friday 22nd March.
Winchester City Council set up the consultation, which saw over 800 people over two days, to discuss what might happen to the River Park Leisure Centre building once the new Winchester Sport & Leisure Park has been completed in Bar End.
Project managers were available to chat about people’s thoughts on the building, as well as the surrounding parkland and Hyde Abbey Garden which sits to the side of the site, alongside The Pavilion Project, which aims to replace the cricket pavilion.
Steve Brine said: “This has been such a buzzing event. It’s no surprise that people want to come and have a say about the future of North Walls.
"The council are looking to be ambitious and what’s here is a good way to engage with the public.”
Mike Caldwell, who leads The Pavilion Project, added: "We received great support for The Pavilion Project; it's becoming increasingly clear to all that the new pavilion with its changing, and other, facilities, will become absolutely vital to the future of sport at this location once the leisure centre closes in 2021."
