Around forty ladies (and a few gentlemen) visited the Houses of Parliament after Winchester & Chandler's Ford MP Steve Brine organised for them to take a tour and meet up with him in the ancient Westminster Hall afterwards. Their visit happened to coincide with Swansea Day, organised by a group of Welsh MPs and a traditional Welsh Male Voice Choir was in the Hall treating visitors to their repertoire. Not to be outdone by the men, the Winchester ladies cleared their throats and performed the rousing English favourite.
Speaking afterwards, Jo Stacey said: "Westminster Hall really rang out with our rendition of Jerusalem when Otterbourne WI visited the seat of power. It was such an interesting visit our members had, meeting our MP Steve Brine and being able to sing on the steps of Westminster Hall. Watching the Speaker's Procession and taking the tour was truly fantastic. The singing was definitely a bonus!"
Steve Brine added: "I love being able to open up Parliament to constituents and do it a lot but this one was really special as I don't think I have seen anything quite like the incredible sight of a group of my constituents singing their hearts out in Westminster Hall before. I hope they all really enjoyed the visit and those boys from Swansea will remember who they're taking on next time."
