Steve Brine addresses a jam-packed meeting in Micheldever Station hosted by the Dever Society.

The latest attempt by Zurich Eagle Star to build a major new town in the open countryside around Micheldever Station is receiving unanimous opposition from all your representatives and community groups.

Steve Brine, the Prospective Conservative MP for Winchester, has already stressed his resolve to help fight this proposal and addressed a packed public meeting this evening (Thursday 11 December 2007).

You can see what Cllr Barry Lipscomb said (on behalf of all three local City councillors at the meeting here (will open as a PDF file).

The Dever Society called the meeting, which was held in The Warren Hall at Micheldever Station and chaired by Society President, Khalid Aziz.

Speaking after the meeting, Winchester Prospective MP said; "“I have pledged my support for any action that prevents the building of a new town on this important greenfield site.  A proposal with ‘eco-town’ in the headline may seem like a way to short-circuit opposition to large-scale development on this site but it doesn’t change the fact this is a relatively remote rural area with very few facilities for the existing population.

"It was fantastic to see a packed Warren Hall on such a cold December night.  It just proves - yet again - what love local people have for their community and their determination to protect it from mass housing development that will change this area forever."
