Local councillors have rejected a proposal by Linden Homes to build 350 houses at Pitt Vale.

The plans, which were submitted when the neighbouring Winchester Village site at Pitt Manor was still being built, had been highly controversial, and Steve Brine heard from a very large number of local residents who had been against the scheme.

The Planning Committee voted 7-1 against the development in Winchester Guildhall on Thursday morning, and the news was greeted with delight, and relief, by Steve Brine and Cllr Jan Warwick, who represents the area on Winchester City Council.

Steve Brine said: "I couldn't be more pleased to hear this decision from the Planning Committee. I have spoken to so many constituents over the past two years that this application has been hanging over us, and I know just how many people will be relieved.

"Moving forward, speculative developers should be very aware that we already have a signed-off Local Plan, and we should all support our signed-off, plan led approach to the provision of new housing."

Cllr Jan Warwick said: "I worked very closely with Steve, and fellow campaigners including Gavin Dick and Rob Ducker, to fight this, and I am very relieved. This is the right decision seeing that we already have a robust Local Plan, which has been formally signed off."
