The Winchester & Chandler's Ford MP discussed a recent visit he made, at the invitation of his constituent, Tim Underwood, who leads the team looking at the oesophageal cancer.
He highlighted that the team, based at Southampton General, would be pleased to hear news that the government is now looking very closely at introducing plain packaging for tobacco products, following extensive consultation and examination of the evidence from countries which have already introduced the measure.
Steve Brine said: "It is always a pleasure to highlight the fantastic health services we have locally, and in doing so I was able to challenge the government to go as far as possible in ensuring that young people are discouraged from even taking up the habit in the first place.
"It is clear to see that a childhood addiction more often than not leads to a lifelong adult habit, and I want to see all evidence the government has as we seek to tackle this as part of a wider strategy."
