The Winchester & Chandler's Ford MP spent time chatting to postmen and women at the busy Winnall depot and saw for himself the enormity of the task they carry out as Christmas approaches.
Steve said: "This is the seventh year I've visited at Christmas and the logistics behind the operation continues both to fascinate and daunt me. The growth in the parcel side of the business, much of it generated by the big online retailers, is remarkable and creating its own challenges. There are a great many pressures on the service right now, both seasonal and as the business undergoes major change post-privatisation but the rank and file posties were in good spirits and I hope pleased with a crumbly mince pie from the local MP.
"On behalf of the thousands of people I am so fortunate to represent, I was able to thank them for the job they do, week in week out in all weather to get us our mail and that's important to me. My note to self was that next year I need to bring more mince pies, and some cream!
"My visit was also a chance to speak with Managers at Winnall about the arrangements for people across the area collecting special delivery and oversized items because I am really concerned about the problems we all face at present when trying to stop on Winnall Manor Road and collect an item."
