A number of constituents have been in touch with Steve Brine to share their views regarding the proposed parking restrictions to be introduced in the various roads surrounding Micheldever Station.
The purpose of the order is to introduce new on-street parking and waiting restrictions to prevent obstructions and maximise on street parking provision. The proposed restrictions will be a combination of 'No Waiting At Any Time' double yellow lines, 'No Waiting 10:00am to 2:00pm Monday to Friday' single yellow lines, 'No Waiting 10:00am to 2:00pm Monday to Friday With Permit Holders Exemption' parking bays and 'Parking No Time Limit' parking bays.
The surrounding roads that will be effected include Andover Road, Brunel Close, Mill Place, New Road, Overton Road, Ellis Drive, Northbrook and Larkwhistle Farm Road.
Steve Brine said: "I have been in direct communication with local residents with regards to this matter and understand their concerns about the amount of parked cars that are situated within the surrounding area on a daily basis.
"Equally, I understand the frustration that many commuters, mainly from the Wonston & Micheldever area itself, who travel into London and Southampton face each day when struggling to find a parking space close to the station. I will continue to liaise with all my constituents and Winchester City Council to ensure that the final plan can work for everyone."
Cllr Stephen Godfrey, Leader of Winchester City Council, said: "Commuter parking around Micheldever Station has been a problem for many years. The Parish City and County Councils have tried many schemes to reduce the impact, but the situation has become increasingly unacceptable to the residents immediately around the station for safety and amenity reasons.
"Reluctantly, it is necessary to try out these new restrictions, which I hope will be workable. I also want Network Rail with the train operating company to further improve their facilities for their customers.
The consultation closes on Friday 16th September.
