The MP has led calls among local MPs to protect the unit at Southampton General Hospital. He has hosted a number of meetings for fellow MPs, the Safe & Sustainable review team and the team from SGH in Westminster.
Steve said: "Like many in Southampton I supported the review taking place because it is first and foremost about quality and the aim is quite rightly to improve outcomes for some very poorly children across the country as a whole.
"It beggars belief that despite being one of the best centres in the country Southampton appears in just one of the four options being considered and is therefore under real threat.
"The campaign is having an impact, and the Daily Echo deserves huge credit for that, but I believe there remains a clear and present threat to children's heart surgery at SGH and we need people to speak out now if they haven't to-date."
Steve is urging people to take advantage of a new TEXT service to show support for the unit. You can text HEART to 85001; wait for the reply and then text "I choose option B", followed by any other comments with your name and address. You will receive an acknowledgement from IpsosMORI.
He added: "This week more than ever, as the public consultation event comes to Southampton, we need to make a big noise to show local support."
Steve also featured the issue in his May column for The Hampshire Chronicle (here) and has written to a large number of constituents, GP surgeries and other health centres to try and make people aware.
