Kings in Parliament

Winchester MP Steve Brine welcomed a group of students and staff from Kings’ School on Wednesday 5th June as they were awarded Plastic Free Schools status!

The students were in Parliament to join up with the World Environment Day reception, and Steve was asked by Surfers Against Sewage to present the award to the students and congratulate them on achieving it.

Steve Brine said: “It was a real pleasure to have Kings’ in Parliament once again, this time to mark such a fantastic achievement. There are over 1000 schools around the country taking part in this programme which makes clear to me how well they have done. I am already making plan to visit the school in the near future so I can see for myself the work they are doing.”

Lisa Kent, Eco Team Co-Ordinator at Kings' School, said: “Kings’ school pupils and staff have worked together to achieve this award. I’m immensely proud of our achievements and it is a great example of how collective efforts can make a difference to our environmental future.”

As well as attending a special reception, the students and teachers were given a personal tour of the chamber of the House of Commons by Steve Brine.

Hampshire Chronicle column - Farewell

Thursday, 30 May, 2024
My final column is perhaps more reflective than usual but I hope you will forgive me as I prepare to formally step down as Parliament is formally Dissolved ahead of the General Election on July 4. Fourteen years ago, in May 2010, I was first elected as our MP.
