Steve Brine joined children from across Stanmore at the grand opening of the Stanmore Community Library at The Carroll Centre on Monday 21st January.
Officially opened by Hampshire County Council Leader Ken Thornber, who cut the ribbon and a special celebration cake with local youngsters, Steve was also joined by respected local councillors including Ian Tait, Jamie Scott and Derek Green.
The Carroll Centre is a charity organisation based in Stanmore which serves the local community with its involvement with the young and not so young people in and around Winchester. Various activities are held at the centre including football, art workshops, mums and tots, youth nights, games evenings and much more. There is an active After School Club together with holiday playschemes which take place every half term and school holidays.
Steve said: "When the closure of Stanmore library was proposed we all feared the worst. But I think, while the community understand money is tight and change was inevitable, it refused to accept the total loss of this service and the result is a brilliant new community asset.
"Change doesn't always have to mean something is taken away. In this case I think we have something better and I suspect it will be better used because the Carroll Centre is a real community hub for Stanmore."
