The new-look Winnall Community Centre in Winchester officially opened its doors on Friday 30th September following £132,000 of Hampshire County Council funding to improve facilities for Winchester residents and local organisations.

The community centre, run by Winnall Community Association, remained open whilst the improvements were made over the summer. Now visitors will benefit from a brand new café area as well as improved storage, toilets and flooring. Energy saving and emergency lighting has been integrated, meaning that the venue is more cost efficient than before.

City MP Steve Brine said: "I am delighted the doors are now open on this excellent facility, and pay tribute to Hampshire County Council for this funding which will mean a great deal to the Winnall community."

County Councillor Fiona Mather added: "This is money very well spent. It will be a real help towards providing a modernised centre with better facilities for all age groups.

"We are all enormously grateful to Ron Fenech for masterminding the project. He is a true community champion".

Winnall Community Association's grant for the community centre was approved in April this year, as part of over £570,000 of funding from the County Council for community halls and centres, with money also given to sites in Warsash, Broughton and Rowner, Gosport.
