The morning began with Opening Prayers led by Rev Mike Gardner, before the gathering was welcomed by the Winchester Basics Bank Chair of Trustees, Mike Slinn. Mike told the group how Winchester Basics Bank had begun back in 2004, and explained how they operated, and Steve, who had brought his own donation, was then asked to say a few words and officially cut the ribbon.
Speaking afterwards, on the way to his next Friday appointment, Steve Brine said: "The Winchester Basics Bank has helped so many people since it was first opened in 2004 and they do great work. The Highcliffe Basics Bank is great but it is also two bus rides for people in Stanmore so this new branch is right place, right time.
"I was asked to open the new service here at St Luke's and hope by doing so I can ensure it is widely publicised.
"Huge thanks to Rev Mike at St Luke's and all the WBB volunteers who are making this happen. They will remain in my prayers."
