Cancer Roundtable

Steve Brine held the latest in his roundtable sessions on cancer in London on Wednesday 28th February.

The Winchester & Chandler's Ford MP, who is also the Cancer Minister, invited over 20 key representatives from organisations dedicated to fighting all kinds of cancers, and was delighted at the excellent contributions to the discussion.

Speaking afterwards, he said: "I greatly appreciate the passion, dedication and support everyone showed in helping us to realise the transformation in cancer services that we all want to see.

"It was a great privilege to bring the National Cancer Director, HEE's Director of Workforce Planning and so many of our brilliant charities together for such a constructive discussion."

The session covered a range of topics, including the cancer workforce and HEE's comprehensive plans to ensure we have the capacity and skills in place to deliver the cancer strategy, as well as positive progress on securing the future of CPES so it can continue in 2018/19 and beyond.

It also reported on work underway on widening the Cancer Dashboard to include other cancers, progress on making sure the Cancer Alliances are more transparent and engaging closely with the cancer community as they continue their rapid development, as well as NHS England's plan for continuing to implement each one of the 96 recommendations in the cancer strategy over the next three years, including how further progress on the recommendations will be presented to the National Cancer Advisory Group shortly.

Mr Brine added: "I hope everyone found the discussion as incredibly helpful as I did, and are assured in our absolute resolve to fully implement the strategy by 2020."
