Steve Brine was among a large number of MPs from across the House who supported an amendment to the recent Queen's Speech that expressed "regret that an EU referendum Bill was not included".

The Winchester & Chandler's Ford MP was among a total of 114 Conservatives, 11 Labour MP and a Liberal Democrat who backed the amendment, and they were also joined by four Democratic Unionists.

Speaking afterwards, Steve said: "In over 30 years the European project has ploughed on with little or no regard for the people who pay its way. The Prime Minister is spot on to try and renegotiate our relationship and end this democratic deficit. We will go on reminding people that it is only the Conservative Party offering voters a choice and reassuring them that offer is rock solid. This amendment is another part of that."

Steve Brine is now supporting a Private Member's Bill, led by Conservative MP James Wharton, which is set to adopt the European Union (Referendum) Bill drafted by the Conservatives after winning the right to bring in a Private Member's Bill in the annual ballot among MPs.
