Harry Stow, Sports Development Officer at Energise Me said, “Harry and Alex are both members of the Hampshire Talented Athlete Scheme and this event was a great opportunity for the children of Weeke Primary School to hear from two local athletes and inspire them to strive to reach their goals. Energise Me and Hampshire County Council are very proud of the athletes and occasions like this also give them the chance to build their confidence in presenting and telling their story.”
The morning started with Alex and Harry sharing their sporting journey to date. Alex presented to Year 4, 5 and 6 about his successes in Hockey and Rugby, he is a member of the regional performance centre for England. Headteacher Jonathan Kirkham said: “Since the installation of the outdoor gym, the children have responded so positively to it, whether it be the beginning of the day or a lunchtime they are always on it and active. I am so pleased that we can continue to support the children’s health and well-being with the support of funds such as the Lottery. A memorable opening ceremony, thanks to the young sports personalities who visited.”
Despite the wet weather, the event was a great success and a wonderful celebration of these fantastic new facilities for the Weeke community to share and enjoy.
