Steve addressed the Planning Development Control Committee at the United Church on Jewry Street on Monday June 14.
Steve told how he had already spoken to new Secretary of State Eric Pickles, who reiterated that the government expects Local Planning Authorities and the Planning Inspectorate to regard the pledge outlined in the Queen’s Speech to return decision making powers on housing and planning to local councils as ‘material planning consideration’.
Steve also pointed out he is not against development outright. He said Winchester & Chandler’s Ford has a need for new housing, but we now have a “real opportunity to take back control” of the agenda and create a local development framework based fully on the needs of our area.
