The Winchester & Chandler's Ford MP spoke beforehand to key Winchester homeless organisations Winchester Churches Night Shelter and Trinity, and was able to intervene in the debate, which was also strongly supported by information from Crisis, Shelter, Homeless Link, Centrepoint, the local government ombudsman, Depaul UK, Generation Rent, the Children's Society and Gallery Youth.
Steve Brine said: "Winchester Churches Nightshelter contacted me in advance of the debate and said that the complexity of its guests' needs had significantly increased in recent years. Many referrals have a mental health issue, a substance abuse issue or both."
Mr Brine went on to say that whatever the colour of the next government, the next 'frontier' in tackling homelessness among young people must be a national focus on services working together to address multiple needs.
