RHCH scanner June 2013

The MRI and CT scanners at Royal Hampshire County Hospital were officially reopened on Friday 14th June, as Steve Brine was joined by two special guests to do the honours.

Kitty Martin and Daisy Cole, both from The Westgate School, witnessed the fire that gutted the unit back in December 2011, and decided they wanted to help their local hospital. So they organised a cake sale at their school, and very kindly donated the money they raised to go towards the cost of the new unit.

The new equipment, inspected and in some cases tried out, by Steve and a large number of guests which included the firemen who put out the fire, is state of the art, and the radiology team expressed their delight that they were now back inside, having run the department from Portacabins since the fire.

Speaking afterwards, Steve said: "I vividly remember coming in to see the damage after the fire and it was so sad to see. This is a fantastic new facility for our hospital and, coming right after the new Outpatients as it does, is more very welcome investment in the future of the Royal Hampshire County Hospital.

"This is state-of-the-art equipment which we are really blessed to have here in Winchester."
