Winchester branch of CSPA invite Steve and his Lib Dem opponent to debate pensions and much more besides.
Prospective Winchester MP Steve Brine popped into the Spring meeting of the Winchester Branch of the Civil Service Pensioners’ Alliance today (Monday 15 March 2010).
The meeting, held at the Badger Farm Community Centre, featured Steve and his Liberal Democrat opposite number answering questions from members on a wide range of topics.
CSPA is a campaigning and lobbying group for pensioners from Civil Service and related pension schemes. They are billed as the only organisation recognised by Government Departments, Agencies, etc as speaking for all Civil Service pensioners and have nearly 65,000 members.
Steve outlined his view on a number of issues to the group and then took part in a Question Time style event with around 40 local members. Questions ranged from pensions and long-term care provision to local out-of-hours GP care and even the phasing out of cheque books by UK banks.
Speaking after the lunchtime event, Steve said; “It was nice to be asked and I was grateful for the opportunity to get across where David Cameron and I stand on many of these critical issues. We could have spent the whole session discussing any of the topics raised which I guess is a mark of how important they are. I hope CSPA members locally enjoyed the event and will get in touch if they think of a burning question they didn’t get chance to ask.”
