He signed Early Day Motion No. 178, which calls on the Government to deal with the proposals under the Act expeditiously, and is by far the highest signed EDM this session, currently with 236 Members’ names.
Thousands of people and hundreds of councils across the country engaged in the Act last year, by submitting hundreds of ideas for government action and assistance to help reverse community decline and promote local sustainability. This resulted in the 200 shortlisted proposals now before the Government.
Steve has written to Minister for Decentralisation Greg Clark MP urging him to ensure all proposals are dealt with as quickly as possible.
He said: “This is a really important Act for all local communities, including here in Winchester & Chandler’s Ford.
“One of the reasons so many people engaged in the Act was because it created a new and truly ‘bottom up’ process that they could use to engage in the democratic process.
“It has now been over a year and three months since those proposals were submitted and I am confident that applying pressure to the Government, and in turn Whitehall, will get things moving.
