Steve Brine recently took time out of his packed Commons schedule to meet with constituent Mike Slinn, to discuss eradicating global poverty.

The tea was part of a wider event in which 130 MPs met with their constituents at the same time, and was jointly organised by Action Aid, CAFOD, Christian Aid, Oxfam, Save the Children and Tearfund.

Speaking after the meeting, Steve said: "I believe that everyone has the right to a future free from poverty. I want the UK government to make this possible through effective international aid and fair long term solutions.

"I argued strongly within my party that we should protect the aid budget and am proud we have done that in Government. It is one of the things that makes this a compassionate country and a super-power in helping some of the poorest people on the planet.

"I would add that while aid is essential, by itself will not end global poverty. If poor countries are to prosper then we must ensure our aid assists fair trade and we have to crack down on tax avoidance as part of a multi-national approach with our international partners."
