Prospective Winchester MP Steve Brine welcomed the huge group, who met at Homebase just off junction 9 on Saturday morning (April 10).
Steve says; “We had friends of mine from neighbouring constituencies alongside Winchester councillors and party supporters from right across the Winchester & Chandler’s Ford constituency. When you’re the candidate the last thing you want to do is pound the streets on your own cutting a sad and lonely figure and it’s a major boost to have this kind of turnout I can tell you.
“Elections are about getting out there talking to people; so I hit the High Street while this huge team hit the doorsteps. You can’t hide behind Twitter and email all the time, you have to look people in the eye and ask them if they will support you.
“I knew the team were planning a BIG turnout but this was amazing, truly humbling. We covered so much ground in three key wards within the city centre and covered as much ground in one morning as would normally do in a week. We all met up at lunchtime for a well earned drink at the Cart & Horses in Kings Worthy and completely took over the front of the place. Goodness only knows what our opponents would have thought if they had walked into that on Saturday lunchtime!”
