Steve Brine handed out the awards at the annual Alresford event today.

The newly elected Winchester MP and his family were among more than 10,000 people in the town today (Sunday 16 May 2010) for the Watercress Festival.

Running from 10am-4pm, the Festival Cavalcade kicked off proceedings running from the Globe pub all the way up Broad Street.  There was a selection of jazz music and presentations for the 2010 Eateries Awards & Food Awards. Well-known chefs and food writers demonstrated their skills and showed off some mouth-watering recipes, while there were street performances of song and dance throughout the day.

Steve said: “Susie and I had a great day with little Emily and Popcorn. The festival seemed a lot bigger and busier than last year, with stalls even going up Station Road. The British spirit was also out in force, completely ignoring the overcast weather.

“Emily loved the merry-go-round, and we struggled to prise her away.  We had some bacon butties for lunch in the Alresford Community Centre, which were absolutely delicious. Congratulations and top marks to all the organisers and volunteers for putting on such a wonderful festival, which is a real jewel in the crown for both the town and the wider area.”
