Tubbies playgroup was at risk of closure after the previous organisers left after the summer holidays, but Chris Russell, of Somerville Rd, has filled the void for the group, which takes in around 25 toddlers in the village.
Speaking to Steve Brine as the MP visited Tubbies, 39 year old Chris said: "I was so sad when I heard that Tubbies had closed, so with the help the parish council, the childrens' centre and the parents across Kings Worthy, I hope to keep it open so it is here to stay.
"When I moved to the village I didn't know anyone, but through Tubbies I made friends and my children have now met some fantastic friends too! Crucially, Tubbies is not just a toddler group, it's a meeting place for parents and fabulous asset for our community, and I would like it to remain that way, so a big thank you to Steve Brine on behalf of us all for all his support."
Chris and his ex-wife Katie are now looking for local volunteers to join them, and ensure the playgroup goes from strength to strength.
Steve said: "Katie and I have had so much support with our kids via these toddler groups and they are really important. Yes they are a place for our kids to climb someone else's walls but they're also a vital early years setting, where children learn to play with each other and be ready for formal pre-school.
"And as important as all of that they are a place where parents can have a coffee and share the many challenges of bringing up small children.Chris is an inspiration and deserves our thanks for refusing to accept this group will not exist. I wish him every success."
Tubbies meet in Tubbs Hall, Kings Worthy every Wednesday from 10:30-12:00 during term-time.
