The Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Sajid Javid, today unveiled the Government’s plan to deal with covid through the winter period.
Amongst the plan was the rollout of the vaccine for 12-15 year-olds, announced yesterday, but also the much rumoured booster jabs for the original phases 1 – 9.
Steve Brine, Member of Parliament for Winchester and Chandler’s Ford, welcomed the plan whilst showing concern that there is “a creeping feeling we're preparing to treat flu like covid, more than the other way round.”
Steve went on to raise an issue, which he first became aware of via a constituent; “Before we start extending the vaccine program and boosters, can I ask the Secretary of State to get a grip on a creeping issue. Which is people who've had one vaccination in England and another one in Scotland or the other way round. The two systems are not talking to each other and they're then not getting the benefits of being fully jabbed.
So, we need to deliver for those who've done what we asked them to do, before we deliver vaccines to others.”
Mr Javid responded saying; “My Honourable Friend is absolutely right to raise this and I have people in my own family who've had that very issue.
It is something that I know the Vaccines Minister is looking at, but I've also discussed it with the Health Minister in Scotland and we are working to see what more we can do.”
