Prof Joy Carter, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Winchester, has been awarded a CBE in the New Year's Honours.

Prof Carter, who lives locally, is also known for her work chairing the Higher Education Commission's fifth inquiry into the diversity of HE provision, chairing GuildHE, and also for many years serving on the Universities UK Board.

She also currently chairs three further national bodies, The Church of England's Steering Group for their Foundation for Educational Leadership and Supporting Professionalism in Admissions Steering Group.

Steve Brine MP said: "This is so richly deserved and I have to say it's hard to believe Joy hadn't already received a gong. She is such an asset, not only to the University but to Winchester. We are beyond lucky to have her here."
