Steve Brine welcomed to Henry Beaufort School by Headteacher and takes a tour of the secondary school in Harestock area of Winchester.

Prospective Winchester MP, Steve Brine, paid a visit to The Henry Beaufort School (Friday 17 October 2008) and met with Headteacher, Jonathan de Sausmarez.

They discussed current education policies being put forward by Ministers and the Conservative Opposition and took a detailed tour of the school, including the day nursery.

Speaking after the visit Steve said; “I always enjoy school visits because they are such inspiring places and we have such excellent schools here in Winchester – we really are very lucky.  And even though Emily is not yet a year-old, I am also very fortunate to be able to take a pre-tour to check out all the local schools at first-hand!

“I was extremely impressed with the obvious passion Jonathan has for his school and like all good Headteachers, he is really driving it forward in every area.  The new school buildings are mighty impressive and create a real sense of a place the students and staff can take glowing pride in.

“Henry Beaufort is also innovating in methods of reward-led discipline and great (yet simple) technological advances such as finger-print lunch money technology which I feel many other schools could take a lead from.”

Henry's Kindergarten is a purpose built day nursery on the school site for 46 children aged from 3 months to 5 years. It is open daily from 8.00 am - 6.00 pm for 51 weeks a year.  While at the school, Steve also met with the nursery manager to discuss concerns they have raised about proposed government changes to nursery education that could threaten its future.
