Steve dropped into a new exhibition at the Green Jackets (Rifles) museum at Peninsula Barracks on Friday 15th July to take a look at the vital work that ordinary women carried out during the Second World War.

The Lord Lieutenant of Hampshire, Dame Mary Fagan, opened the show by encouraging young people to take a look at how the war affected the lives of so many people.

The museum is working with the Hampshire Women's Institute to put on the display which will run daily until September 17th.

After the visit, Steve said: "I was extremely impressed at the exhibition, and it is easy to see how hard so many people have worked to get this going.

"It is always good to be served a reminder of just how the war affected such a vast number of people in their day-to-day existence, and I echo the Lord Lieutenant's thoughts in encouraging youngsters to take some time to come down and have a look."
