Win City FC

Winchester MP, Steve Brine, was at the final home game of the season today as Winchester City FC launched a new chapter in their long history.

The Citizens, who have cemented their place in the Southern Premier League this season, will shortly leave their Abbots Barton home while vital improvements are made. They've launched a £100k community fundraising campaign to complete the £1.1m fund that will install a state-of-the-art pitch and community hub.

Supporters of the club - and those who want to see new top class facilities in the city that will be used by boys and girls teams of all ages - can contribute by making a donation large or small via the GoFundMe site that's been set-up.

Steve, who is Honorary VP of the club, said; "The Citizens are playing the highest standard of football, in the highest league, than any time since their formation in 1884. To take the club to the next phase we need to significantly upgrade the Charters Community Stadium and that's why this campaign is so important."

Ken Raisbeck added; "Winchester City Football Club has come a long way in recent years, and we are now on the cusp of creating the next phase of our history.

"Our first team has achieved unprecedented success, currently sitting in the Southern Premier League - the highest position in the league pyramid in the clubs history - a testament to the hard work and dedication of our players, coaches, volunteers, and most importantly, the unwavering support of our community.

"With over £1,000,000+ already identified, we are just £100,000 away from completing the development of a state-of-the-art AGP (artificial grass pitch) that will also serve as a Community Hub for players, coaches, regulars, and families.

The new AGP pitch and Community Hub will be a game-changer for our community, providing a first-rate facility for all teams - including ladies, youth, juniors and disability teams as well as rugby. Serving over 1,000 players across the Winchester district.

"But it's not just about the players; it's about creating a space where our entire community can come together, build connections, share their passion for the sport, and co-create a brighter, more united future for Winchester.  The Community Hub will be a hub of activity, energy, and excitement, and we ask for your help to be a part of it."

Hampshire Chronicle column - Farewell

Thursday, 30 May, 2024
My final column is perhaps more reflective than usual but I hope you will forgive me as I prepare to formally step down as Parliament is formally Dissolved ahead of the General Election on July 4. Fourteen years ago, in May 2010, I was first elected as our MP.
