Steve dropped into Winchester station on Thursday 30 September to chat to manager Nicky Holland about refurbishments, building work and a host of commuter issues.
They met as South West Trains were conducting a regular ‘Meet the Manager’ session, where travellers can stop off and address queries and concerns with the station management team.
Mr Brine said: “I am obviously a regular commuter to London like thousands of my constituents so issues around our station and the service provided by South West Trains are vitally important to many people locally.
“While things are certainly not perfect, I have noticed a marked improvement in the rail service provided over the past few years and it is certainly not the punctuality of trains that constituents tend to contact me about at the moment. It was really good to pop by and chat to Nicky, who was able to update me on the refurbishment work at our station, including new lighting in the car park and much-needed upgrade of the toilets.
"I was very glad to hear they are urgently looking again at the excessive queuing in Winchester, which has recently been highlighted by a national passenger survey as among the worst in the South of England and I once again pressed the importance of them recognising that many of their elderly and disabled passengers simply cannot stand for extended periods of time to buy a ticket.”
