Twyford Bridge Norris

Steve Brine had a meeting with a difference today - on a bridge in Twyford.

The MP for Winchester & Chandler's Ford met up with parish councillor, Chris Mitchell, to discuss what are long-running safety concerns on the narrow ancient structure.

Mr Brine had met up with Cllr Mitchell during the General Election campaign, while holding a village surgery in Twyford, and promised to visit in the new year.

He says; "While due to Covid this visit took a little longer than planned, it was good to chat with Chris and get the latest on this long-running issue.

"Residents are understandably concerned about safety on the bridge, especially those who cross it on foot to access Shawford Station, and we need to establish once and for all whether there are things Hampshire are prepared to do here."

Hampshire Chronicle column - Farewell

My final column is perhaps more reflective than usual but I hope you will forgive me as I prepare to formally step down as Parliament is formally Dissolved ahead of the General Election on July 4. Fourteen years ago, in May 2010, I was first elected as our MP.
