Yana Razora from St Peter’s Catholic Primary School, has won Steve Brine's annual Christmas Card competition.

The Year 5 pupil follows in the footsteps of previous winners from across the constituency and won first prize with a “Rudolf the red-nosed reindeer” picture. Yana now wins a selection of House of Commons themed gifts.

As well as the main prize, there were also a range of year group winners and commendations, and for the first time, an overall runner-up, Nathan Zhong of Pilgrims School, who also won the Year 4 category.

Scarlett de Kretser from Twyford School won the Year 6 category, while Chace Middleton from Kings Worthy Primary School won the Year 3 Category. Edward Zhong of Pilgrims’ School won the Year 2 award.

Aubrey Gregory, of Kings Worthy Primary School won the Year 1 category, and Woodrow Skeoch, also from Kings Worthy, won the Reception Year prize.

Special commendations were also given to Elin Carter from Kings Worthy Primary School.  (Year 5), Alfie Leyland (Year 4) of Pilgrims’ School, Arthur Macinally (Year 4) of St Swithun Wells School, and Heidi Barrett (Year 2) of Itchen Abbas Primary School.

Due to coronavirus, this year was a slightly reduced competition, which meant entries are unable to be displayed in the Children's Library at the Winchester Discovery Centre.

Steve Brine said: "Despite the virus, this was another strong year for entries to the competition and I am hugely grateful to all busy teachers for making time to allow the children to take part and, of course, the children for putting their hearts into this. I would particularly like to thank the Mayor of Winchester, Cllr Patrick Cunningham for being the guest judge this year. Especially over zoom we had a very difficult job to pick a winner between the final two.

“My congratulations go to Yana, whose design will be sent to the Queen and the Prime Minister among others, and all the Year Group and Commendation winners."

Hampshire Chronicle column - Farewell

Thursday, 30 May, 2024
My final column is perhaps more reflective than usual but I hope you will forgive me as I prepare to formally step down as Parliament is formally Dissolved ahead of the General Election on July 4. Fourteen years ago, in May 2010, I was first elected as our MP.
