Residents on the Alresford side of Winchester especially will have noticed the current restrictions on the A31.

They are part of what's known as Operation Transmission, a facility to check any freight headed for Portsmouth which is not EU ready after the UK exit from the Customs Union.

The checkpoint came online 1st January 2021 and is due to stay until end March 2021.

Winchester & Chandler's Ford MP, Steve Brine, is keeping close tabs on this facility; liaising regularly with Hampshire County Council, the Port of Portsmouth and the Hampshire LRF (local resilience forum) and has posted this short update for constituents.

Hampshire Chronicle column - Farewell
