Winchester & Chandler’s Ford MP, Steve Brine, will hold the latest in his ASKtheNHS series next month.

Thursday 27th May (6pm) will be a chance for constituents to hear from Hampshire Hospitals Foundation Trust – and local commissioners – about future services at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester.

Last year HHFT ran the Hampshire Together programme to look at plans to deliver a new hospital to serve the people of north and mid Hampshire and how the emerging integrated care system will bring together GPs, mental health, community care, social care and the wider voluntary sector. It reported back in September with six options; mostly centred around the future of emergency care, consultant-led maternity care and intensive care at Winchester and Basingstoke hospitals.

The meeting comes as commissioners at the NHS Hampshire, Southampton and Isle of Wight Clinical Commissioning Group consider whether to give the go-ahead to a formal public consultation on possible future service changes.

Steve Brine says; “We worked hard to promote Hampshire Together last year and get constituents involved because this was a key moment for our local NHS. This Spring and Summer is another such moment so I hope this latest ASKtheNHS session will be well attended because it’s a real chance to understand what’s going on and ask those involved why.”

HHFT Chief Executive, Alex Whitfield, adds; ““This is a great opportunity for us in the NHS to hear from the public about the things that matter to you and to answer questions you may have on the NHS, the services we provide and our thoughts about the future. Whether it’s Covid, waiting times, parking, or future investments – you can ask anything, and we will do our very best to answer.”

Joining Steve at the event he will chair will be Alex Whitfield, Lara Alloway (Chief Medical Officer at HHFT) and Dr Matt Nisbet; Associate Clinical Director at the CCG. It will be a hybrid meeting with attendees joining via zoom. Those wishing to attend should contact Mr Brine’s office via [email protected] or 0207 219 7189 to register.

Since 2010, Mr Brine has held a series of similar sessions focused on issues including the local NHS, train services and the UK aid programme.

Hampshire Chronicle column - Farewell

Thursday, 30 May, 2024
My final column is perhaps more reflective than usual but I hope you will forgive me as I prepare to formally step down as Parliament is formally Dissolved ahead of the General Election on July 4. Fourteen years ago, in May 2010, I was first elected as our MP.
