MP Steve Brine brought Hampshire’s new police commissioner to the area for a special ‘BEAT surgery’ with local officers.

Donna Jones joined Mr Brine and local councillors, including Cllr Patrick Cunningham, for the event held outside East Stratton Village Hall on the evening of Thursday 10th June.

The surgery saw dozens of residents express their views on a wide range of local policing matters with illegal horse and trap racing along the A33 being a key topic of concern.

Speaking after the surgery Steve said; “Donna has brought a new energy to the role of PCC and she is rightly keen to engage with residents as much as possible. I don’t think we can under-estimate the importance of this level of visible neighbourhood policing to my constituents in this very rural area at a time of such heightened concerns around the illegal racing.”

PCC Donna Jones said; “It was great to be out in the community and villages surround Winchester yesterday with Steve Brine and the local police. The public have told me they want a commissioner who will not only listen, but act. That’s why being out in the community in the first month in the job is key.”

Cllr Patrick Cunningham of Winchester City Council added; “I was delighted to welcome our new PCC Donna Jones and MP Steve Brine to this East Stratton/Micheldever Beat Surgery to hear our many resident’s serious concerns surrounding the illegal Trap racing on the A33 and other major policing matters relating to residents safety in the area. It was good to establish these lines of communication, and to be able to bring these issues to the attention of people at the highest level to influence the course of action in combatting these ongoing local problems and support the rule of law.”

Hampshire Chronicle column - Farewell

Thursday, 30 May, 2024
My final column is perhaps more reflective than usual but I hope you will forgive me as I prepare to formally step down as Parliament is formally Dissolved ahead of the General Election on July 4. Fourteen years ago, in May 2010, I was first elected as our MP.
