The village of Twyford came together this afternoon to raise funds for Ukraine.
The event, held at The Bugle Inn, included traditional Ukrainian cakes and food as well as a silent auction to raise money for the Disaster Emergency Committee Ukraine fund.
Local MP Steve Brine was asked to join in and attended with his son, William. He spoke briefly to thank everyone for their support before everyone (attempted) to sing the Ukrainian national anthem!
He says; "The organiser, Georgie Sollom, produced a piece of magic in the late afternoon sunshine and I'm sure we raised a good deal of cash for the appeal. I was really touched to be asked along to what was a village event and really appreciated the chance to chat with so many people about what else they can do to help and important next steps with the Homes for Ukraine scheme which so many here have signed up for.
"Many wanted to know how they can pair up with a Ukranian family needing sanctuary so it was good to chat about that and connect people with the organisation RESET which has set up a system that will ensure safe and appropriate matches between UK hosts and Ukrainian refugees."
