Steve Brine MP HoC May 20 2024

Winchester MP, Steve Brine, has spoken as the long-awaited Infected Blood report is published.

Sir Brian Langstaff produced his findings and the parliamentary - as well as Government - response has been swift.

The Prime Minister gave an apology on behalf of the nation on Monday and Cabinet Office Minister, John Glen MP, set out details of the compensation scheme today, Tuesday.

Steve, who chairs the Commons Health & Social Care Select Committee, gave his initial reaction to BBC Radio 4 and spoke of the massive state failure at this heart of this scandal. He promised strong scrutiny of the Government's response on the select committee corridor.

He also appeared, alongside affected families and long-standing campaigner on the issue - Dame Diana Johnson MP - on BBC Newsnight Monday evening.

Hampshire Chronicle column - Farewell

Thursday, 30 May, 2024
