Mr Brine said the welcome decision to raise the personal allowance helped thousands of people on lower and middle incomes keep more money in their pocket each month, and he asked for confirmation over how much more someone on the minimum wage will be saving.
Replying for the Treasury, Danny Alexander MP said that three quarters of full time workers pay less income tax than in 2010, and the typical taxpayer saves £800 per year.
Speaking afterwards, Steve said: "People keeping more of their own money in their pockets to spend as they see fit. That is strong Conservative values being put into action from a Conservative Chancellor and Prime Minister working together in coalition and it's hard working people in places like Winchester who are benefiting from that."
Additionally, in a busy session, the Chancellor, George Osborne, discussed how 50,000 had been helped by Help to Buy, as well as the Government's long-term economic plan, and the rising level of employment and apprenticeships.
