The competition, which is organised jointly by Dogs Trust and the Kennel Club, aims to highlight dog welfare issues and the unique relationship between man and dog, as the canine companions of MPs from all over the UK strut their stuff in a bid to take the coveted title.
Proud owner Steve Brine MP explains: "I am extremely excited to be representing Winchester & Chandler's Ford and going head to head with my fellow MPs at this year's Westminster Dog of the Year. Popcorn has been at my side through the many years I campaigned for this area and in the two years since becoming the MP. He is often better known than me in the constituency which we both love and I hope will mean my constituents will vote for him in large numbers.
"I am quietly confident Pops will give the other dogs a run for their money and the judges will be bowled over by his sensitive nature and the fact he actually smiles when he meets new people he likes, political friend or foe!"
The Kennel Club's primary objective is to promote, in every way, the general improvement and furthermore to protect and promote the dog's varied roles in society.
