Steve Brine voted emphatically for a referendum on the UK's membership of the European Union on Friday 5th July, as the House of Commons was packed, at least on one side!

Steve spoke in the debate, and said how keenly the people of Winchester & Chandler's Ford await the chance to actually hear the arguments over membership, and have their say for the first time in nearly 40 years.

As well as a very large turnout from Conservative MP, there were a handful of Labour members, as well as one Liberal Democrat.

Speaking afterwards, he said: "It was dead simple for MPs today, do you want to give your constituents a vote on our membership of the European Union or not? I have been clear since the day I entered Parliament where I stand so it was a pleasure to support my friend James Wharton's EU Referendum Bill."

This was the first time James Wharton's Private Member's Bill has been debated in the House, and MPs overwhelmingly backed the bill at second reading, with a vote of 304-0.
