Winchester's 'To honour a promise' World War I commemoration project was highlighted in Parliament on Tuesday 10th September.

It was raised by local MP Steve Brine as part of a short-debate, led by Dartford MP Gareth Johnson, looking at events being formed across the country to mark the 100th Anniversary of the start of the Great War in August 1914.

Tens of thousands of British and American troops set up camp at Morn Hill, Winchester on their way to the Western Front and a promise was made at the time to erect a permanent memorial at the site which is now a Butterfly Reserve.'To honour a promise' is a campaign to see that finally takes place.

Winchester & Chandler's Ford MP Steve Brine, who has been a supporter of the project since its inception, said it was "a worthy piece of unfinished business as well as a fitting commemoration to those who sadly didn't make the return trip through Winchester."
