Locally, Winchester U3A currently have about 1200 members and aim to provide a friendly environment in which members can work together to share learning and leisure activities and add value to their quality of life.
U3A membership is not related to a specific age in years but to that period in life after full-time employment and parental responsibility (the third age), when people are free to come together to develop interests for which they may not previously have had the time. There is no lower age for membership, and anybody in their third age can join U3A, including people who are working part time.
Following the tour of the palace, they met up with their MP for a chat and to discuss the issues of the day. Organiser Jan Reynolds said: "18 members of Winchester U3A Quester 3 group enjoyed a guided tour of the Houses of Parliament on Monday 10 November, organised through the office our MP, Steve Brine, and we were delighted that before the commencement of the guided tour in Westminster Hall, Steve made time to meet the members of the group."
Speaking afterwards, Steve said: "U3A members from my constituency have visited every year since I became the MP and it's always a pleasure to have them. Any group can arrange to visit and I hope many more will follow their lead."
