The Winchester & Chandler's Ford MP is passionate about transforming rehabilitation, and told the Commons that he has pleased to hear the Chancellor speak about this in his recent Autumn Statement.
Mr Brine went on to ask the Minister if he agreed that the sale of old Victorian prisons, is a 'prime example' of how economic and social reform can go hand in hand, and how revenue could be raised for the Exchequer, while at the same time working positively with prisoners in these prisons, with the added benefit of creating new places for homes in cities.
Speaking afterwards, Steve Brine said: "I was very pleased to hear recognition that the justice reforms are an exemplary part of our long-term economic plan. The Minister was clear on combining savings with social reform with delivering economic benefits from improving the employability of prisoners upon release, all alongside creating sites for 3000 new homes.
"It is only because we have a strong economy, of course, that we can invest £1b to close these outdated prisons and build nine modern ones fit for purpose in the 21st century."
